Going to Las Vegas for… Competitive Running

January 14, 2013

People have all kinds of reasons for going to Las Vegas. Usually, it’s to do something that they wouldn’t ordinarily do at home. For some, it’s celebrating a bachelor party. For others, it’s to attend a convention (like the recent International CES Gadget Show). There are also those who go to Las Vegas to do something remarkable: to run competitively.

Las Vegas is a hotbed of running competitions: marathons, half-marathons, and 5Ks are just a few of the types of running competitions that the city is famous for. If you’re a runner, there’s no better place to go than Vegas!

Spring 2013 Running Events in Las Vegas

  • Red Rock Canyon Marathon and ½ Marathon (March 9, 2013). This race will take place in the Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area just 15 miles away from Las Vegas. Desert heat shouldn’t be too bad in March. If you’ve never experienced the gorgeous vistas offered by this natural area, then you’ll certainly get to see a lot of them by running a half marathon!
  • Las Vegas Six Tunnels to Hoover Dam St. Patrick’s Run (March 16,2013). This race is a classic in Las Vegas. (Actually, it’s in Boulder City a half hour outside of Vegas.) And, what better time to be in Las Vegas than St. Patrick’s Day? There’s always a party in Las Vegas, but St. Patrick’s Day is a real reason to celebrate!
  • 3rd Annual Mindy25 Memorial 5K (April 6, 2013). This 5K will help benefit the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). Money goes to help families of an Army helicopter that crashed in Ghazni, Afghanistan in 2005. What better cause to run for than supporting the families of fallen veterans?
