Jimmie Johnson Wins Las Vegas NASCAR Race for 4th Time

The Shelby American NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway wrapped up today, with Jimmie Johnson taking top honors for the fourth year. While NASCAR superstar Jeff Gordon led for most of the 267 laps, but he was overtaken at the end by Johnson at lap 251. Local racer Kurt Busch was out of the race after a major crash (he’s okay), while his brother Kyle, who won this race on his home turf last year, was tagged with a speeding penalty in pit row and finished in the middle after being in contention for much of the race.

Also this past weekend, IndyCar driver and newcomer to NASCAR Danica Patrick was in town to race the Sams 300 on Saturday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. She ended up crashing after being in third place for part of the race. She was disappointed and said she felt bad for crashing the car after everyone had worked so hard. She’ll begin her IndyCar schedule, and rejoin the NASCAR National series this summer.
