Las Vegas Mourns the Death of Michael Jackson
Several venues on the Las Vegas strip paid homage to Michael Jackson, the iconic King of Pop who died this past Thursday.
Planet Hollywood dedicated its gigantic marquee to the image of Michael Jackson with the caption "King of Pop 1958 -- 2009. You will be missed."
Madame Tussauds Interactive Wax Museum at the Venetian located the wax figure of Jackson to the front plaza. The figure is dressed in a white and gold suit. The Madame Tussauds Museums all over the world have also displayed their Michael Jackson figures in a similar manner. The Las Vegas venue also placed a guest book with the statue so fans and visitors could leave their condolences and thoughts. Fans have also been leaving flowers and notes. The museum plans to present the family with the book at a later time.
Jackson had been living in Las Vegas sporadically for the past several years and his father, Joe Jackson, was reportedly in Las Vegas at the time of his son's death. Joe Jackson has been living in Las Vegas for the past few years.
Michael Jackson died at the age of 50 at his home in Los Angeles on June 25. Even though his doctor was present at the time of his collapse, neither he nor the paramedics or UCLA hospital personnel were able to revive Jackson.
The first autopsy was inconclusive with final cause of death pending toxicology reports. It could take up to six weeks for the tests to be completed.
Jackson was due to start a series of concerts in London in mid-July and had been rehearsing for the shows up until the night before his death.
