Las Vegas Stars Gather to Remember Michael Jackson
The brightest stars in Las Vegas were front and center for a Michael Jackson tribute at the Palms last week. And the brightest star, according to all reports, was the youngest star. Elijah Johnson, the talented 11-year-old who plays Young Simba in the Lion King at the Mandalay Bay performed the Jackson 5 hit "Dancing Machine" to a stunned audience. His performance was a true channeling of Michael Jackson at precisely the age Elijah currently is. He had the voice and moves that reminded everyone in the audience why they were there--to honor one of the finest performers of all times.
Also sharing the stage with Li'l Elijah was Terry Fator, who brought his Paul McCartney puppet onstage to do a rendition of the Jackson/McCartney hit "The Girl is Mine." The Motown Sound sensations Human Nature, who opened for Jackson's HIStory tour in Australia 12 years ago, sang "I Want You Back" in the tribute show and showed off more incredible dance moves.
Tons of other Las Vegas entertainers were at the event, including Clint Holmes, Bobby Slayton, Holly Madison, the casts of Jersey Boys, Phantom--the Las Vegas Spectacular, Zumanity, and more. The event raised over $100,000 to go to music education in Clark County schools. Joe Jackson was in attendance and although LaToya Jackson was slated to attend, her last minute plane delay prevented her from attending.
Even though the investigation into Jackson's death has taken some shocking turns, none of that managed to overshadow the joyous celebration of his life.
