Blue Man Group

3

With their shiny blue grease paint, bald heads, and black clothing, the Blue Man Group is a cultural phenomenon that has been taking audiences by storm since 1988. This performance art Las Vegas show has found a home at the Venetian Las Vegas, where a theater was created especially for this dynamic production.

The Blue Man Group brings their high-energy and lively Las Vegas show to the stage for two shows a night, seven days a week. This is a Las Vegas show that ticket holders of all ages can enjoy. After all, do you really have to be a certain age to appreciate a Blue Man catching a paintball in his mouth and spitting the paint of canvas to create a one-of-a-kind piece of art?

The Blue Man Group performers remain mute through the entire performance, while managing to make being completely mute very entertaining.  Along with being mute, they manage to keep an emotionless expression…or mostly emotionless.  Flawless comedic timing combined with a lifted eyebrow or tilted head can get the crowd going. The Blue Man character is open to interpretation but it can be said that he is curious, naïve, savvy, otherworldly, complex, and mischievous. There are always three Blue Men on stage, with a rotation of approximately eight actors.

The Blue Man Group makes their noise with percussion instruments of every shape and variety. PVC piping is used to make several instruments that make unique sounds, along with steel garbage cans, boat antennae, a stripped down piano laid on its side, noises sampled from dog toys and other household items, and bona-fide musical instruments like the zither and the dulcimer.

Audience participation is a crucial component of this Las Vegas show. The members of the Blue Man Group play off the crowd and often look to the audience for validation and reaction. As far as the Blue Man Group is concerned, the audience is the perfect place to recruit brave souls to come onstage and participate in the show in an extreme way. A ticket holder may be painted from head to toe or invited to have a snack onstage while the Blue Man Group mimics his or her actions. Throughout the show, the Blue Man Group keeps a constant connection going with the audience.

At the Blue Man Group Las Vegas show, there are show tickets available for the regular section and the “poncho section.” Audience members can buy tickets specifically for the poncho section. This is the section of the audience where members are provided with plastic ponchos to counter effect the paint, food, and liquids that are sprayed from the stage. One popular Blue Man Group maneuver is to bang on drums that are filled with water. When the drumstick comes down, the water comes splashing out, and it becomes evident why this is called the poncho section.

The Blue Man Group show at the Venetian Las Vegas is visually stunning, ironic, funny, and at times thought provoking.  While not as complex as some of the other Las Vegas shows, it remains a perennial favorite on the Las Vegas strip.
