A Bronx Tale

5

Academy-award nominated actor Chazz Palminteri brings his one-man show A Bronx Tale to the Venetian for a limited engagement. Palminteri has starred in dozens of movies, including the screen version of A Bronx Tale, The Usual Suspects, and Bullets over Broadway.

Palminteri brings his stellar acting talents and passion for storytelling to the Las Vegas stage with absolutely rave reviews. The show has been called "Palminteri's role of a lifetime," and a "tour de force" for Palminteri. He plays all 19--yes, 19!--roles with power and energy. The show is at times poignant and deep, but there are plenty of funny moments as well. Palminteri introduces each character with a colorful description that brings each of them to life.

When Palminteri was a child, he watched one man shoot another in front of his home in the Bronx. Inspired by events in Palminteri's life, A Bronx Tale is the story of Calogero Anello, a young boy who witnesses the family man/mobster disparity as he grows up in the Bronx in the 1960s. He struggles to make the right choices even as those around him succumb to a life of crime.

In A Bronx Tale, Palminteri pays homage to hard-working men, like his father, who put their aspirations and dreams aside so their children could have a better life. The cultural landscape is rife with representations of Italian Americans as wise guys and mobsters, but Palminteri felt something was missing--the heroism of the hard-working Italian-American man. "The man who gets up every morning to do a job he doesn't like very much but does it anyways for his family--just like the fireman, the cop, the sanitation man, the brick-layer, and of course the bus driver."

As Palminteri explains, the everyday working man holds the family together, but boys are often faced with two opposing ways of life--the hardworking man who gets up every day to take care of his family and struggles to make ends meet, or the flashy hoodlum with the fancy suits and wads of cash.

Palminteri leaves audiences touched and amazed with his energetic and nuanced performance. The stage version of A Bronx Tale will be wrapping up its 18-city run with the Las Vegas production. The Las Vegas audience is truly fortunate to have the chance to see the work of such a gifted performer in such a finely-crafted show.
