Come see the Jabbawockeez, a dance group unlike any you’ve ever seen Details: Winners of the first season of America’s Best Dance Crew, the Jabbawockeez, have continued to find success as a popular hip-hop dance group, and now fans can come to see them perform their visually striking dance act in Las Vegas.
Many of you may be familiar with the popular hip-hop dance group, the Jabbawockeez, who became incredibly popular after winning the first season of America’s Best Dance Crew. The dance troupe also won the Hip Hop International’s Honorary “Living Legend Award.” Known for their unique and intriguing look, in which they perform in white masks and gloves that keep their expressions hidden, the Jabbawockeez challenge the audience by directing their attention to the collective group as opposed to individual performers.
Their interesting look adds a certain mystique to their visually stunning performance, leaving their viewers wanting more and more, as was the case with their success on America’s Best Dance Crew. Established back in 2003 in San Diego, California, the group began as a three-member troupe that focused on freestyle dance. By 2004, the group expanded and began performing, and then developed quite a following in southern California. Those of you who might be fans of Lewis Carroll may note the similarity between the group’s name and Carroll’s poem Jabberwocky. Their name was, in fact, inspired by this poem.
The group currently includes eight members, Kevin “KB” Brewer, Phil “Swagger Boy” Tayag, Joe “Punkee” Larot, Ben “B-Tek” Chung, Chris “Cristyle” Gatdula, Rynan “Kid Rainen” Paguio, Jeff “Phi” Nguyen, and Tony Tran. All of the members work together to choreograph their sets and to select music to play during their performances. The members are an incredibly cohesive unit, and their moves are not only artistic but also incredibly articulated and coordinated. They work well as a team and know how important their teamwork is to having such successful and spectacular shows.
The Jabbawockeez have been an incredible success since taking home the title of America’s best hip-hop group and the $100,000 prize. Following their win, they were featured in Pepsi and Gatorade commercials and made an appearance in Step Up 2: The Streets. The group also became popular internationally and toured Australia back in 2009.
More recently, the Jabbawockeez have performed in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Hollywood Theater, in their new performance called MÜS.I.C. The show was incredibly unique because it featured the first hip-hop dance troupe as the headliner for a Las Vegas show. After their stint at the MGM Grand, the act was featured at the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. If you are a fan of hip-hop dance looking for a fun and exciting performance unlike any other dance show you have previously experienced, buy tickets to see the Jabbawockeez in Las Vegas.
