Jeff Dunham has been entertaining crowds with his unique brand of ventriloquism since he was a teenager in Texas. It was evident from the time he was eight years old and received his first dummy that he had a special gift for ventriloquism only shared by a few people—including his idol, the great ventriloquist Edgar Bergen.

Dunham found himself appearing on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1990 and continued to hone his craft for the next ten years. He appeared as a solo act on Comedy Central Presents and from there also appeared in several specials on the TV network Comedy Central. He was voted Top Comic on the show “Stand-Up Showdown” by Comedy Central comedy fans and has been voted “Ventriloquist of the Year.” He gained national notoriety for his character “Achmed the Dead Terrorist,” and the footage of the first appearance of Achmed remains the fourth-watched YouTube video ever with over 200 million hits.

Dunham’s interactions with his dummies are filled with plenty of laughs. His zany cast of characters includes Walter, Jose Jalapeno on a Stick, Peanut, Bubba J, Sweet Daddy Dee, and of course Achmed, the incompetent terrorist. He points out to Achmed that he must be dead because, well, he’s a skeleton, to which Achmed replies “it’s a flesh wound.”

Dunham seems like the type of entertainer that would be perfect for a long-running show on the Las Vegas strip—and he is perfect.
