Jersey Boys, the hit Tony-award winning Broadway musical, is now a Las Vegas show that’s quickly becoming a Las Vegas audience favorite. Jersey Boys is the story of the Four Seasons musical group, told with Four Seasons music as a backdrop. The Jersey Boys musical was such a blockbuster on Broadway and as a traveling show that the Palazzo, a sister resort to the Venetian, built a custom theater especially for this spectacular Las Vegas production. Even for Jersey Boys show ticket holders who weren’t alive or may not have been fans when the Four Seasons were popular, this show transcends the music and tells a timeless rags-to-riches story. The fast-paced story is so compelling and the music is so energetic, that even younger generations of ticket holders who’ve never heard of the Four Seasons will find plenty to enjoy in this Las Vegas show. The Four Seasons were distinctive because of their unique harmonizing vocals and Frankie Valli’s falsetto voice. They created many top hits that defined a generation including “Oh What a Night,” “Sherry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Rag Doll,” “Working My Way back to You,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and “Who Loves You?” Many of these favorites are featured in the Jersey Boys Las Vegas show. Baby Boomer fans knew the voices and songs of the Four Seasons, but many didn’t know the story of the four friends who grew up together. For example, not many people know that the actor Joe Pesci was there for the start of the group and even facilitated an initial meeting between some of the Four Seasons members. The Jersey Boys follows Franki Valli and the rest of the Four Seasons from a blue-collar childhood to Rock and Roll Hall of fame induction. It’s a story of humble beginnings in Newark, New Jersey that shifts to a tale of worldwide fame and fortune. The show illustrates how such changes affect individuals within a group. It explores the deep and abiding friendship of Bob Gaudio, Frankie Valli, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi that has spanned over forty years. Las Vegas audience members feel like they are really along for the ride with each of the four boys from Jersey, in great part because the point of view shifts within the show. This shifting narrative between each of the Jersey Boys gives the show an almost documentary feel. The Four Seasons songs are seamlessly integrated into story throughout this Las Vegas show. The actors playing the Jersey Boys are uncanny in their renditions of the Four Seasons songs. They do justice to the talent and voices of the real members of the Four Seasons. One thing’s for sure--there’s no place in this cast for those who can’t hit the high notes. The music is truly spot-on.
