Legends in Concert

3.5

In most cases, a “legend” is a matter of opinion. What may be legendary to one person will hardly register as a blip on the radar screen of another. There are a few iconic performers, however, that define the term “legend.” The Legends in Concert Las Vegas show offers impersonations of legendary performers, both past and present. Las Vegas has changed a lot since Elvis first came to the city in 1969. Those years are erased as the Elvis impersonator of the show, Matt Lewis, first takes the stage dressed in a black suit reminiscent of his early rockabilly days. As he belts out “A Little Less Conversation,” the audience is on its feet. Elvis the Pelvis is in the house. Later, the Elvis impersonator takes to the stage again, adorned in the white rhinestone-encrusted jumpsuit that truly defines the legend of Elvis Presley. What other song besides “Viva Las Vegas” could Elvis possibly sing at this point of the show? Elvis is joined by several iconic Las Vegas showgirls, and a flashing neon “Elvis” sign completes the time warp. Lucky Legends in Concert ticket holders may even get a “uh, thank ya…thank ya vury much” from Elvis.A less common, but just as legendary impersonation in Legends in Concert is Barry White. The talented impersonator looks just like White and is able to sing in the same growly and velveteen voice that made White the favorite of so many fans and a true legend. The Legends in Concert show consists of a rotating group of impersonators. Those interested in Legends in Concert tickets can check the Imperial Web site for a nightly list of current acts. Characters that may appear onstage include Dolly Parton, Madonna, The Temptations, Barbara Streisand, Blues Brothers, Garth Brooks, Cher, Rod Stewart, Marilyn Monroe, Elton John, and many more. Also appearing is a Jay Leno impersonator, who delivers a monologue and acts as the master of ceremonies in some of the shows. The entire cast consists of nearly 20 impersonators, and show producers try to mix old favorites and newer artists in the lineup, with approximately 12 acts appearing nightly. Not only do the stars of Legends in Concert look amazingly like the real deal, they also sound like the originals. There is absolutely no lip synching in this show. These professional impressionists have perfected the mannerisms, facial expressions, and even personalities of the legends they portray. To round out the entertainment value of this Las Vegas show, there are backup singers, dancers, and a live orchestra. Even the theater at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino evokes the Las Vegas of yesteryear, with showroom-style tiered seating, booths, and table cocktail service.Las Vegas attracts the best impersonators in world. Impersonators appearing in a Las Vegas show of this caliber know they have reached the highest level of success in their field. Talented in their own right, when the transform into the character of a legend, they transform the entire audience into another realm.
