A musical that celebrates menopause? Absolutely! Menopause the Musical celebrates women and the inevitable change they all go through. This show has been entertaining and inspiring audiences the world over since 2001, and now it’s in Las Vegas for an extended engagement. The ninety-minute show has entertained nearly 11 million women in 14 countries including the U.S., Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Israel, Italy, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

Menopause the Musical is set in a department store, where four women from divergent backgrounds come together to discuss their hot flashes, food cravings, mood swings, and night sweats. The characters include the Earth Mother, the Housewife, the Businesswoman, and the Soap Star. They take a stroll through memory lane through the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, with song parodies such as “Puff, My God I’m Draggin’” (sung to the tune of “Puff the Magic Dragon) and “Stayin’ Awake, Stayin’ Awake” (sung to the tune of 70s disco hit “Stayin’ Alive.”

While Menopause the Musical takes a raucous and lighthearted look at “the change,” at a deeper level, the show encourages dialog between women about the issues they all face regarding aging and women’s health. As a matter of fact, the show went on tour to bring awareness to and raise money for ovarian cancer education and research 2005 through 2006 and raised nearly $500k for the cause. The show continues to raise money for this important cause.
