Mystere - Cirque du Soleil

4

It’s hard to grow tired of the athleticism and astounding imagery of a Cirque du Soleil show. Mystere Cirque du Soleil at Treasure Island is yet another Cirque du Soleil production created by the legendary Franco Dragone that defies imagination and gravity at the same time. Since its debut in 1993, Mystere has been among some of the most well-received and consistently popular Las Vegas shows. The one hour and 45 minutes Mystere Las Vegas show has 72 cast members that include singers, dancers, acrobats, and musicians. For anyone who’s ever had the luck to see a Cirque du Soleil performance, the skill and talent of the international cast of performers is a source of amazement. The Mystere theater was built especially for the show. The stage morphs into different shapes depending on the act. The stage floor raises in levels and rotates, giving all show ticket holders different perspectives throughout the show, regardless of where they are seated. The show is fun, eccentric, and even a bit mischievous. It feels a bit like a trip through the imagination of a child—or perhaps just a childlike imagination—where everything is brilliant with color, light, music, and wonder. The show includes a trampoline act, a pole climbing act, and a trapeze act, but Mystere is far from a traditional circus. One of the main strengths of the Mystere show lies in the sheer strength and athleticism of the world-class performers--they truly epitomize human physical perfection. The Mystere show at the Treasure Island has its fill of amazing stunts, but the whimsical quality of the show is high as well. The clowns in Mystere take a starring role in the production, but as anyone who has seen a Cirque du Soleil show knows, Cirque clowns are far from standard circus clowns. Even prior to the start of the show, the clowns provide hilarious entertainment to the audience. As a matter of fact, the clowns ensure that the audience becomes part of the entertainment.  One clown is particularly popular, but audience members close to the stage may get a bit wet. One final hint on the clowns: Don’t worry if one of them “borrows” your popcorn—one of the ushers will get you more. The live music in this Las Vegas show is moving and multi-layered with a mix of African, Celtic, operatic, and soulful tunes. The show opens with Japanese Taiko drums that add drama and energy to the show. The elaborately feathered costumes, brilliants makeup, and set design are glorious, detailed, and larger than life as they are in every Cirque du Soleil production. Treasure Island is one of the more family friendly properties in Las Vegas so it’s not surprising that Mystere is a Las Vegas show that the entire family can enjoy. The show tickets are priced well enough that it won’t break the bank to have the entire family come along. No matter the age of the audience members, they are left wondering “how in the world do they do that?”
