SHOWS LAS VEGAS SPECIAL: FREE UPGRADE FROM ORCHESTRA TO GOLDEN CIRCLE
In 2006, Broadway’s longest-running show hit the Las Vegas strip in true Las Vegas style. Phantom--A Las Vegas Spectacular is The Phantom of the Opera supercharged for a Las Vegas audience. In both the Broadway and Las Vegas show, the mysterious Phantom lives deep in the bowels of a Paris opera house. He admires the beautiful and talented Christine from afar, and although she feels his presence, she has never seen him. The Phantom eventually lures Christine to his romantic underground lair and she is soon mesmerized by him. Christine soon discovers that the menacing masked Phantom is actually is a disfigured, passionate, and lonely man. He also has a violent temper.

The Phantom and Christine become close, but Christine also has her life to live above ground, and this drives the Phantom mad. He becomes enraged when Christine becomes engaged to her childhood sweetheart, Raoul. As a result of his anger, the Phantom wreaks havoc on the opera house and everyone in it. The final scene in the show reaches an emotional crescendo that leaves the audience awestruck.

Like the original Phantom story of stage and screen, the Las Vegas production is a story of intrigue, desire, jealousy, passion, longing, obsession, and revenge. The original Broadway team of creator Andrew Lloyd Webber, director Hal Prince, and choreographer Gillian Lynn revisited the original show that made its debut in 1986 and re-imagined it as a Las Vegas show while maintaining integrity of the of the original Broadway production. The team has stayed true to the plot and music the Broadway audiences loved, while whittling down the Las Vegas show time from two and a half hours to 95 minutes. What has been sacrificed in time has not been sacrificed in glamour, suspense, and intrigue.

The $40 million Phantom Theater at the Venetian was created to house this blockbuster Las Vegas show. The Phantom theater was painstakingly replicated to evoke a Paris opera house. In this Las Vegas show, the magnificent theater actually becomes part of the production. The theater boasts plush seats, luxurious fabrics, mahogany woodwork, and dramatic gilded accents. Opera boxes adorn the sides of the theater and a hand-painted domed ceiling adds more drama to the space. The audience is further engaged when the curtain goes up. The actors move through the space in a way that continues to draw the audience into the story.

Every detail of this stunning Las Vegas show is meticulously crafted, from the opulent period costumes to the dazzling special effects. State of the art technology is employed throughout the theater and the show and includes fireworks and other sophisticated pyrotechnic techniques and effects. And then there’s the famous chandelier. The chandelier in this Las Vegas production is a technological engineering feat and a work of art. It cost $4.5 million to create, weighs 2,100 pounds, and is adorned with over 29,000 glistening hand-strung crystals. The opera house chandelier plays a central role in the Phantom story on both stage and screen, and the Las Vegas show is no exception. At one point, the Phantom swings from one end of the theater to the other on the chandelier. The pivotal chandelier scene in the Las Vegas show is dramatic for the entire audience, particularly those sitting directly under the chandelier. No need to worry, though. While the scene is breathtaking, the audience and actor are perfectly safe. The effect will still take your breath away, however.

Phantom—A Las Vegas spectacular is a feast for all the senses. Fans of the stage production will not be disappointed, and ticket holders new to the story of the Phantom are able to enjoy the same plot and music as the original show.
