For Las Vegas visitors and residents alike, The Rat Pack is Back show is a chance to experience the ultra-hip Las Vegas of the early days. This Las Vegas show features impersonations of Rat Pack members during their heyday. The Rat Pack took Las Vegas by storm in the 1960s. They were a loosely organized group of Hollywood A-listers who performed and socialized together. Members of the group included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop. In addition to the famous men, women were also part of the Rat Pack at various times. Female Rat Packers included Shirley MacLaine, Angie Dickinson, and Marilyn Monroe. The Rat Pack, already famous individually, pooled their talents for several movies and later on some memorable Las Vegas shows. Often when one would be scheduled to perform, others would perform as well. These legendary shows became part of show business history and the Rat Pack to this day is symbolic of Las Vegas' halcyon days. The members themselves didn't refer to themselves as the Rat Pack, and didn't particularly care for the nickname, but outsiders and the press loved the term and used it frequently when referring to this group of dashing celebrities. Impersonations in the Rat Pack is Back show include Sinatra, Sammy, Martin, Lawford, and Bishop. Miss Monroe also joins them onstage. The Rat Pack is Back cast is joined onstage by the swinging 12-piece Rob Cook Orchestra, lending another layer of authenticity to the show. Sinatra and company sing standards like "Fly Me to the Moon," "What Kind of Fool am I," and "Ain't That a Kick in the Head." Just about any TV show or film depicting Italian-Americans will feature the song "That's Amore'" by Dean Martin, and he sings this in the Las Vegas show as well. The jokes are authentic to the time and as such can be a bit politically incorrect. Martin was known for his love of a good cocktail, and he made no secret about it in his Las Vegas shows. This trait is acknowledged in the Rat Pack is Back show. One of Martin's famous jokes goes somewhat like this: "I'm on the whiskey diet. I lost four days in one week." The original Rat Pack performed at the Sands, which has since been blown up to make room for the Venetian. Ticket holders to the Rat Pack is Back show can still experience the glamour of the old Las Vegas showroom. The theater has both booth seats and tables, crystal chandeliers, and lots of red velvet and swag. Back in the day, dinner used to be included with the show, in the showroom, and show ticket holders have the opportunity to enjoy dinner in the showroom.Often emulated, never duplicated, the Rat Pack defined Las Vegas and established the city as a true vacation destination and the best place on the earth to party--a reputation that continues to this day.
